Savannah Yacht Center Opens Revamped Superyacht Refit Facilities

Savannah Yacht Center Opens Revamped Superyacht Refit Facilities

Since its extensive refurbishment six months ago, the revamped Savannah Yacht Center (SYC) has become a premiere destination for yacht service and refit.

Customers at SYC will undoubtedly be impressed by the updated facilities, with new features including a 3,240-ton shiplift with capacity to hardstand eight 80 metre vessels, 365 metres of floating docks for in-water service, as well as a dry dock able to host superyachts up to 140 metres.

Customers are now flowing in to SYC due to its new world class facilities. Major refits were recently undertaken on as many as nine superyachts, of which a 73 metre Turquoise-built yacht and a full superstructure paint on a 78 metre Abeking & Rasmussen were two.

Aviva spent nine months altogether in the graving dock as part of her refit at SYC. Work on the Abeking & Rasmussen superyacht included an overhaul of the air compressors, generator service and repainting of her hull and superstructure. Other projects at SYC have included a 55 metre Amels, a 92 metre Feadship and an 87 metre Lürssen, which was relaunched just before Christmas following a dry dock refit.

The yard has kicked off 2020 strong with three 10-year surveys underway on an 88 metre Feadship, a 60 metre Lürssen and a 62 metre Delta. As work ramps up, SYC is growing its workforce to meet demand.

Commenting on the refurbishment, SYC business development director George Whitehouse said: “Until we opened our new facilities, the US did not have the capabilities to lift more than one large yacht in a superyacht yard and clients were therefore forced to head to a commercial yard."

"In addition to that, it is important to highlight what we have here in the beautiful city of Savannah and the surrounding area – there are so many options and activities available for the crew.”

Located within easy reach of the Charleston and Savannah Hilton Head airports, SYC is amply equipped to take care of crew, with a bistro style restaurant, fitness centre, crew lounge and concierge services available. For more information, visit Savannahyc.com.
